How long does transport from Poland to Czechia take
Czechia borders Poland along the whole south of the country, so transit times are short. A full truck from Katowice, Wrocław or Opole to Prague, Plzeň or Brno usually runs within one working day. From northern Poland you add time to reach the border. The delivery date depends less on kilometres than on driver working time and the unloading window at the consignee. When a shipment has to hit a fixed slot at a plant, we schedule the vehicle with a buffer, because a late arrival means the next free window is hours away.
What drives the cost
A short distance means a low per-kilometre cost, but the rate still depends on several things: trailer type (curtainsider, mega, reefer), direction (Prague and western Czechia are cheaper than Moravia when the return runs empty), season and whether you book a full truck or just a few pallets in a groupage system. The toll is added on top.
The Czech MYTO CZ toll covers vehicles over 3.5 tonnes on motorways and selected national roads. The charge is calculated automatically by an on-board unit (OBU) based on kilometres driven, number of axles, weight and emission class. Since 2025 vehicles are split into five CO2 classes, which affects the rate per kilometre.
Market scale: in 2024 Czechia produced a record 1,452,881 passenger cars, up 3.9 percent year on year, with Škoda Auto alone accounting for almost 62 percent of that output (source: AutoSAP). It shows how dense the network of plants and suppliers is, all needing daily transport.
Documents and customs
Czechia is in the European Union, so moving Union goods needs no customs clearance and no customs checks at the border. Standard paperwork is enough: a CMR (the Convention on the contract for international carriage of goods by road) consignment note, an invoice or delivery note and a packing list if needed. There is no duty or import VAT on intra-EU trade, and tax is settled as an intra-Community supply. Excise goods and ADR (the Accord governing international carriage of dangerous goods by road) dangerous goods carry their own documentation rules.
