Amazon requires an FBM seller shipping orders from outside the United Kingdom to offer buyers one of three return options: a local UK returns address, a prepaid international return label, or a returnless refund. The source is Amazon Seller Central. The local address wins when the goods have real resale value and you want to see what comes back before the money leaves.
The three options Amazon allows
According to Amazon Seller Central documentation, an FBM seller fulfilling UK orders from abroad must provide one of three routes: a returns address within the United Kingdom, a prepaid international return label, or a full refund without requesting the item back. The choice is not cosmetic, each route distributes cost and risk differently.
Option 1: a prepaid return label to Poland
You pay for international transport of every single parcel. For a parcel worth less than the freight you pay for the return twice: once in the refund, once in the label. Add transit time and formalities, and the goods come back weeks later, often in a condition nobody along the way has assessed.
Option 2: returnless refund
The customer keeps the goods, you give back the money. For very cheap products this can be the cheapest way out, because freight and handling costs disappear. The problem starts with goods of real value: you give away both the product and the money, and a no-return policy attracts abuse, because a dishonest buyer risks nothing.
Option 3: a local returns address in the UK
The customer sends the parcel back by cheap domestic post to an address in the United Kingdom. You pay for handling the return locally, but you regain control: the parcel is scanned, the goods are examined, and the refund decision is made after the condition check, not before it.
When the local address genuinely wins
- The goods have resale value. Electronics, tools, sports equipment, higher-priced clothing: anything that after a check and possibly repacking can go back on sale in the UK instead of disappearing into a returnless refund.
- You protect yourself against abuse. When the buyer knows the item will be examined and documented, the number of dubious claims drops. The photo report is your evidence in a dispute.
- You have steady returns volume. From a dozen or so returns a month, the difference between single international couriers and collective consolidation to Poland shows up in the invoice, not in theory.
Honestly: for single cheap products a returnless refund can be rational. The local address is not a dogma, it is a tool for goods worth saving.
How OTSL handles Amazon FBM returns
Within the UK returns address and handling service you enter our warehouse address in Seller Central: OTSL, 36 Clarke Road, Bletchley, Milton Keynes MK1 1LG. We receive returns 24/7, scan every parcel and assign it to your account, and you get a photo inspection report usually within 1-2 working days. Then your rule applies: re-dispatch within the UK, repacking with a new label, consolidation and collective transport to Poland with customs clearance, or documented disposal. The whole process step by step is described in our guide to a UK returns address, and the shipping context in the article on e-commerce transport to the UK.
Not only Amazon
The same return-path logic applies on every channel: eBay, Etsy, your own store. One UK returns address serves them all at once, and returns from different channels end up on the same consolidation pallet to Poland anyway.
