Emergency transport takeover

Carrier let you down? We take over the load 24/7.

Emergency transport takeover at OTSL is the rescue option when another carrier lets you down: the truck never showed up, the forwarder cancelled at the last minute or the load got stuck en route. We provide a replacement vehicle, take over the documents and customs clearance, and move the most urgent goods by express van. The duty desk runs around the clock, because in these situations every hour counts.

Emergency transport takeover is the interventional takeover of an ongoing or broken transport order, in which a forwarder arranges a replacement vehicle, the documents and the delivery on the spot to save the deadline and avoid a standstill at the consignee.

What it covers

  • A replacement vehicle from our own fleet or a vetted network, matched to the cargo type
  • Re-coupling the trailer when the tractor unit has failed, and taking over the load en route
  • A dedicated express van for the most urgent part of the goods when every hour counts
  • Takeover of the full set of transport documents and the CMR consignment note
  • Export and import customs clearance, including cases with incomplete documentation
  • Recovery of cargo abandoned or held abroad, at the border or at a ferry terminal
  • One forwarder as your single point of contact until confirmed delivery
  • Securing and lashing the load in line with carriage rules

How we do it

The call is answered by a forwarder who makes decisions on the spot, not by a call centre. In the first conversation we establish what is stuck, where it is and by when it must arrive, then we confirm an available vehicle and a realistic arrival time. We do not promise hours that cannot be met.

In parallel we take over the documents, check the customs status and plan the cargo handover. If the case involves the UK lane, we arrange the clearance and the crossing so the goods do not get stuck at the border. From that moment you have a single source of information on the status of the transport.

Limits of the service (what it does NOT cover / what to know)

We do not repair another operator vehicle and we do not step into the legal dispute between you and the carrier who failed. The real arrival time depends on the cargo location, vehicle availability and driver-hours rules, which we do not bypass. If the previous carrier holds the load for unpaid freight, releasing the goods may require settling that claim first. The later you report the problem, the fewer options remain: the risk grows of a stopped production line, a lost warehouse slot, a wasted ferry booking and a contractual penalty for a missed delivery window.

We run this service end to end: from the truck arriving, through the paperwork, to unloading at the consignee. You talk to one account manager. They own the whole route and hold the deadline, even when the plan changes.

How we run it

  1. 01

    We step in mid-route

We take over the job when a carrier has failed or a truck has broken down on the way.

  2. 02

We locate and secure the load

We establish where the goods are and in what state, and plan the onward leg.

  3. 03

    We deliver to destination

A new vehicle and route, so the delivery arrives despite the stoppage.

Frequently asked questions

When should I ask for an emergency transport takeover?
When the carrier has not provided a vehicle and stopped answering the phone, the forwarder refused the order at the last moment, the vehicle is stuck on the way due to a breakdown, an inspection or a border, or the consignee threatens a contractual penalty for a broken delivery window. We provide a replacement vehicle, take over the documents and clearance, and deliver the most urgent goods by express van.
What exactly do you do after taking over the transport?
At OTSL, we provide a replacement vehicle from our own fleet or a verified network, and when the tractor unit fails, we reconnect the trailer. We take over the transport documents and run the customs clearance, and we send the most urgent part of the goods by a separate express van. From the report you have one source of information, a forwarder who makes decisions at once, until delivery.
Does the duty service run around the clock?
Yes. The duty service runs around the clock, because transports do not break down during office hours. The longer the cargo stands, the closer it gets to a production line standstill, the loss of a warehouse slot and a forfeited ferry booking. That is why a forwarder who makes decisions at once receives the report at OTSL, not a hotline passing the case on.
What does the first hour of cooperation look like?
First you describe the situation: what is stuck, where, and by when it must arrive. We confirm an available vehicle and a realistic arrival time, and then we settle the documents, the clearance and the way of handing over the cargo. From that moment you have one source of information until delivery. In the background we can dispatch an express van for the most urgent part of the goods.
